Scope

This document specifies the requirements for the performance and testing of piggyback radiation detectors (BRDs) related to radiation measurements, as well as for electrical, mechanical and environmental conditions. This document applies to Backpack Radiation Detectors (BRDs) for the detection of illicit trafficking in radioactive material. Note: The BRD is a portable instrument designed for backpack use, and can also be used independently as a temporary area monitor. BRDs are used to detect gamma radiation, and their functions may also include neutron detection and/or identification of gamma ray nuclides.
