Scope
This document specifies the basic methods and requirements for the design, construction, testing and marking of non-electrical equipment used in explosive atmospheres. This document applies to non-electrical Ex equipment, Ex components, protective systems, devices and assemblies of these products that have their own potential sources of ignition and are used in explosive atmospheres. Hand tools and hand-operated equipment without stored energy are outside the scope of this document. When static autonomous process equipment is not part of the equipment to which this document applies, this document does not involve its safety. Note 1: Static autonomous process equipment includes equipment such as tanks, containers, fixed piping and manual valves, which do not have their own energy sources that may generate potential ignition sources during operation. This document does not specify safety requirements other than those directly related to the risk of ignition that could lead to an explosion. It can be assumed that Ex equipment can operate under the following standard atmospheric conditions (related to the explosive characteristics of the environment): ——temperature: -20 ℃ ~ +60 ℃; ——pressure: 80kPa ~ 110kPa; ——normal oxygen content in the air , usually 21% (volume fraction). Such environmental conditions may also occur inside the device. In addition, due to the fluctuation of the working pressure and/or temperature inside the equipment, natural breathing may be formed, which may cause the external atmosphere to be sucked into the equipment. Note 2: Although the atmospheric temperature range given by the above standard atmospheric conditions is -20 °C ~ +60 °C, the normal temperature range used by Ex equipment is still -20 °C ~ +40 °C, unless otherwise specified and marked. It is generally considered that -20 ℃ ~ +40 ℃ is suitable for most Ex equipment, and if all equipment is manufactured to be suitable for the upper ambient temperature limit of 60 ℃, unnecessary design constraints will be added. Note 3: The requirements of this document also contribute to the design, construction, testing and marking of equipment for environmental conditions outside the above valid range. In this case, the ignition risk assessment, the protection against ignition provided, additional tests (if necessary), the manufacturer's technical documentation and user instructions, clearly explain and indicate whether the equipment is suitable for the conditions it may encounter. It has been recognized that changes in temperature and pressure can have a significant effect on the characteristics of explosive atmospheres, such as flammability. This document specifies design and construction requirements for Class I, Class II and Class III equipment (all EPLs) for use in explosive atmospheres. Note 4: For equipment designed and manufactured in accordance with this document for a specific equipment protection level (EPL), it is not uncommon to use additional measures in areas that require a higher level of safety EPL. These measures include, for example, inerting, explosion suppression, explosion venting, explosion resistance, or, for example, by dilution, venting, monitoring and shutdown. These measures are outside the scope of this document. This document is a supplement and modification to the general requirements of GB/T 3836.1-2021, as shown in Table 1. When there is a conflict between the requirements of this document and the requirements of GB/T 3836.1-2021, for non-electrical equipment applications, the requirements of this document take precedence. This document is supplemented or modified by the following special explosion-proof type standards: --- GB/T3836.29 Explosive atmospheres
